Dear Family and Friends,

I am participating in Cycle 4 St. Joe’s this coming weekend to raise funds for the Eye Centre at St. Joseph's Health Centre. I plan to  cycle 50 km in support of St. Joes. 

By donating to Cycle 4 St. Joe’s, you will help to support the critical needs at St. Joseph Health Centre. This includes an ongoing transformation to ensure our patient care facilities will improve the experience for everyone who comes through our doors. 

Our ophthalmology team at St. Joes includes comprehensive ophthalmologists as well as sub specialists in retina, pediatrics, cornea, glaucoma, strabismus, neuro-ophthalmology and uveitis. This means that virtually all eye conditions can be treated at St. Joes, in your community, without the need to battle traffic into downtown Toronto. 

Over the past 2 years, cataract surgery at St. Joes has been performed at the Eye Centre, a new outpatient facility within the hospital. This new space for cataract surgery has significantly improved the overall surgical experience for patients and their families.

We have been fortunate to have obtained a new YAG-SLT laser for the Eye Centre in the past year, thanks to generous donors. This laser will greatly improve glaucoma treatment at St. Joes. 

In order to continue to provide state-of-the-art cataract surgery and eye care, we need to update our ophthalmic surgical instruments, diagnostic equipment and retinal lasers. Unfortunately, new equipment and technology are not covered through tax dollars.
