Hi,
St. Joe's is an amazing place, every day I see the difference our care providers make in the lives of so many of our community members.
I've been cycling 4 St. Joe's now for four years. We've seen our community come together in ever increasing numbers to support their community hospital. I'm not the fastest on the course but I spin and cycle year round so I can do my best and cycle to improve care at this wonderful health centre. Every year my ride is fueled by generous family and friends who support my ride. Won't you be one of them this year?
Last year we rode in memory of Dr. Jennifer Bender, an avid cyclist, a wonderful anesthesiologist, a mother of two young boys and an active member of the St. Joe's community.
She passed away suddenly almost one year ago and we keep working to honour her memory by fundraising for something called a block room that will be built adjacent to our surgical suites.
A block room is a dedicated area where anesthetists perform regional (as opposed to general) anesthesia procedures such as nerve blocks or spinal anesthetics in the moments prior to transferring a patient into an operating room for surgery. These procedures, most commonly done for major orthopedic surgery, have become one of the tools of the modern anesthetist and are a way that anesthetists can provide quality pain control during and after surgery to improve patient outcomes and experience.
A block room lets us perform more surgeries, more quickly with the best possible pain control for our patients. We can't think of a better way to remember a wonderful physician like Jenn and connect her memory to even better patient care.
You can make this room a reality. Just make a donation, support me in my ride and leave a lasting legacy. And it's easy, you don't have to don spandex or risk any road rash to do this!
It's my six year anniversary at St. Joe's so I'd love it if you could make a donation of $60, $120, $180 or more to help make our new Block Room a reality. Your support will help honour a great doctor and ensure her legacy will make it easier for our surgical patients going forward.
Thanks for your support!
All the best,
Maria
